Time-travel romances are common. But what makes this drama special is that the person who went back in time wasn't trying to fix their own life, but to save someone else's. A fan saves a star — the drama proves how deeply that one line can go over 16 episodes. Initially, Im Sol's only goal was "to save Seon-jae." But Ryu Seon-jae, whom she met after returning to high school in 2008, wasn't an idol on stage, but a nineteen-year-old boy who swam and had an awkward smile. This is where the drama's true emotions arise. Sol went to save the person she admired, only to fall in love with his ordinary moments. This drama uses the device of time travel to indirectly show us that liking someone isn't really about cherishing their most dazzling moments, but their most ordinary ones. Byun Woo-seok's performance was a revelation for this project. The difference in his gaze that makes you believe both the idol Ryu Seon-jae and the high school student Ryu Seon-jae are the same person, and the sincerity that makes the line "If you smile, I feel good too" not cheesy. Kim Hye-yoon accomplished something even harder — portraying desperation and cheerfulness simultaneously without exhausting the viewers. It's no coincidence that the chemistry between the two created a syndrome during its broadcast. Of course, like any time-travel story, there were plot holes that became noticeable in the latter half, and some pointed out that the repeated regressions were emotionally draining. Nevertheless, after watching the final episode, the lingering emotion is not logic, but warmth. It's a story about how the desire to save someone ultimately saved oneself. That's why this drama made so many people cry in the spring of 2024.
