A mini-series historical drama that began airing on KBS in September 2016. A co-production with China's CCTV, the drama reconstructs the events of the Imjin War (Japanese invasions of Korea). The Imjin War is viewed not just as a medieval Korean-Japanese conflict, but as the first East Asian international war of the 16th century. It re-examines the significance of the Imjin War in Japanese history, focusing on Toyotomi Hideyoshi's ambition to conquer mainland China, and sheds light on the role of the Ming Dynasty in leading the victory at the Battle of Pyongyang. The Turtle Ship, completed just one day before the Imjin War began, sees Admiral Yi Sun-sin suffer a serious gunshot wound in its first sortie. The drama depicts close-quarters combat by the Turtle Ship in the narrow Gyeonnaeryang strait and a large-scale crane-wing formation by the Joseon Panokseon fleet.
