Special Feature: Foodbank - Connecting the World with Food (2023)

This program reflects on the activities of Food Banks as they celebrate their 25th anniversary, prompting consideration of the value of donation and sharing in our society. It also explores diverse Food Bank activities worldwide and contemplates the right direction for sharing in our communities. The domestic 'Food Bank' initiative, established to address food insecurity among vulnerable populations during the 1998 IMF economic crisis, marks its 25th year. It began as a pilot project in four regions and has now grown to encompass over 450 food banks and food markets nationwide, facilitating warm-hearted sharing. Initially focused on food donations, the program has expanded to include daily necessities, evolving beyond mere hunger relief to support users' health and nutrition. For the past 25 years, Food Banks have connected those willing to share food with those in need. Continuous voluntary participation from corporations and individuals has led to the evolution of food sharing in various forms. We visit sharing sites both domestically and internationally to re-examine the value of sharing and explore fundamental and effective methods of giving.
