The 42nd Blue Dragon Film Awards (2021)

Korea's top screen stars gather!! Established in 1963 to enhance the quality of Korean films and promote the domestic film industry, the Blue Dragon Film Awards has become the highest honor in the Korean film industry. It continues the brilliant tradition of the past and is a widely recognized grand festival of cinema. The award categories include: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Lighting, Best Screenplay, Technical Award, Best Art Direction, Best Music, Best New Director, Best New Actor and Actress, Popular Star Award, Korean Film Audience Award, and the newly established Cheongjeongwon Short Film Award this year, totaling 18 categories. Among these, works that artistically elevate Korean films or outstanding works with exceptional cinematic completeness, as well as the filmmakers who poured their hearts into realizing them, are selected as winners. The judging process involves selecting candidates based on netizen votes and the opinions of film experts from Korean films released domestically throughout the year. Then, a judging committee recommended by the Blue Dragon Film Awards executive committee conducts the judging to determine the final winners. The unique judging method that publicizes the results and the entire judging process to newspapers, even before the announcement, is recognized as a unique and original system of the Blue Dragon Film Awards, which has no precedent even in leading film festivals abroad. Furthermore, the tradition of fair judging of the Blue Dragon Film Awards, where the results are not known until just before the announcement due to judging conducted under strict security, can be verified by engraving the winners' names on the trophies in real-time during the awards ceremony backstage.
