The Jeong family of five emigrates to the United States with great dreams. Jeong, an excellent architectural engineer, thought he would earn money easily, but initially opened a gas station, while his wife, Mrs. Hyeon, worked as a cleaner to raise their three children. He regrets seeing some compatriots abandon their national consciousness and pride to imitate American habits. Misfortune strikes. An intruder breaks in, shoots Mrs. Hyeon, kills her, and steals a bag of money before fleeing. The U.S. police investigation is lukewarm. Jeong gets a job at a construction company, and his son, Seon-woo, enlists in the U.S. Army. One day, Jeong sees his wife's killer walking down the street. To get revenge, he follows him, confirms the address, and goes there with his brother. The brother kills the assailant but is arrested for murder. Jeong prays devoutly at his wife's grave, recalling the past. He sheds tears, filled with longing for his homeland.
