'Demachi' is Japanese slang for a state of having no work. Jung-tae, a 59-year-old carpenter at a construction site, drinks because he anticipates the rain that has been falling since dawn will cause him to miss work for the day. The rain stops before 9 AM, and he receives a call from the site urging him to come in quickly, stating they need to stick to the construction schedule to secure the next job. Jung-tae has already consumed several bottles of soju. It becomes difficult for him, stumbling with his muddy shoes and tool bag, to catch a taxi or public transport. Upset, he continues to drink, eventually leading to police intervention. An elderly man, spewing profanities while heavily intoxicated, is easily seen as someone to be avoided. On Jung-tae's arduous commute to work, we see society's gaze towards the elderly generation marginalized from information and manual laborers. The performance of Lee Song-hee, a theater actress primarily active in Daegu, is captivating.
