Yeong-gyu and Yun-hee lived a happy family life working in the salt fields. However, Yeong-gyu injures his leg during a dispute over wages. Feeling her livelihood threatened, Yun-hee begins to steal salt with other women. However, they are caught by the salt field supervisor. Unlike the other women, Yun-hee returns home without incident, but Yeong-gyu suspects her and kicks her out of the house. When the supervisor attempts to rape Yun-hee, she kills him and then commits suicide.
