Due to her difficult family circumstances, Mi-ok took a leave of absence from art college and worked as a hostess. She meets Jin-yeong, who dreams of becoming a marathon runner, and falls in love with him. After leaving her shameful past behind, Mi-ok promises Jin-yeong marriage, and they begin living together. However, an encounter with Gil-jung, who knows her past, during their wedding causes Mi-ok to flee the ceremony. Afterward, Mi-ok lives by selling herself to truck drivers along the highway by the Nakdong River. A short while later, upon visiting their old home, filled with memories of Jin-yeong, Mi-ok discovers a sincere love letter from Jin-yeong. This makes her even more self-destructive, and she continues to live a life akin to a swamp. Meanwhile, Jin-yeong does not give up on her and forcefully accelerates to find her hiding place.
