Five years later, five individuals recount their memories of April 16, 2014. A college student who was a high school senior at the time, a cafe owner in Seochon, a middle school teacher in Incheon, a human rights activist, and a fish farmer near the accident site. Their memories of that day are not so different from ours. Shock, anger, helplessness, deep sorrow. "Your April" revisits the memories and trauma left by the Sewol ferry over the past five years since that day in 2014. What's impressive is that these five ordinary people, unlike us who may have become desensitized, are transforming those painful memories into something that can be shared in the present time. We say we must fight against terrible oblivion to avoid repeating the tragedy, but they calmly say, "We haven't tried hard to remember or think about it. But what can we do about April 16th coming?" Director Joo Hyun-suk examines the aftermath of the Sewol ferry on our society, while also bitterly reflecting on Korean society before the disaster. What kind of government did we elect, and what price did we have to pay for it. "Your April" ultimately finds hope in our collective trauma.
