Amidst supply shortages and harsh wartime conditions, thanks to the devoted care of Sister Song, he survives 12 surgeries and two near-death experiences after a 2-year and 8-month battle with his injuries. Facing cold rejection from society, he establishes a self-reliance center with the help of a priest to support his comrades and eventually gets married. Hong-geun opens a radio shop that flourishes, but a fire reduces everything to ashes. Desperate, he attempts suicide, but the faith of Sister Song saves him. Overcoming countless adversities, the couple enters the motor manufacturing business and eventually becomes the head of Daesung Industry, a major conglomerate with billions in assets.
