Mrs. Hong Soon-hye, thanks to the consideration of her homeroom teacher, Mr. Yoon, barely graduates from school. She becomes the breadwinner of the family, taking care of her mother, Mrs. Jeong, who endured many hardships during the Korean War. At 22, she meets her husband working at a US military base, gives birth to twins, and lives happily. However, when her husband is swindled and they have to move into a rented room, she works as a housekeeper, doing her best to help her husband. Her husband drives, while Soon-hye learns sewing skills and saves money. As their life gradually stabilizes, she also begins to help her neighbors. After her women's choir wins the championship and she receives the Savings Award and the Presidential Award, Soon-hye visits her hometown with her family and reunites with Mr. Yoon.
