The Naonbo family leads a poor but happy life. One day, Naonbo discovers a mountain ginseng deep in the mountains, becomes rich overnight, and plans to enjoy life. However, everyone in the village begins to covet Naonbo's ginseng. Mr. Kang, the owner of the pharmacy, plots to steal the ginseng at a low price, but Naonbo, realizing this, flees into the mountains with his family. As the group trying to steal the ginseng searches the forest, Naonbo's son, Taebae, dies, and he is robbed of the ginseng by Cheon Seobang, whom he trusted. Hundreds of people chase Cheon Seobang, and Naonbo, having lost both the ginseng and his son, falls into despair.
