The Neighborhood Boss and Yonggari (2016)

A neighborhood boss lives in Yeongdeungpo in the 21st century! Three years of ups and downs with eccentric neighbors and peculiar people! In the back alley of the glamorous Yeongdeungpo, where the enormous Times Square stands, lies 'Andongne,' a neighborhood said to gather the most unique individuals. 'Sang-hyun,' the eldest brother and boss of this place, begins his day by cleaning the streets and wholeheartedly takes care of the residents for the peace and order of Andongne. Meanwhile, the neighbors of Andongne, who fill each day with laughter even with nothing, each have their own deep stories about how they lived for their families and survival... Perhaps the face of that place, which could have been misunderstood forever, the smile we never knew, the story of an authentic life without pretense begins here, in 'Andongne'. Sang-hyun, who has lived for 25 years as a day laborer in the slum of Yeongdeungpo, plays the role of the boss with his unique charisma and leadership. His only hope is to reunite with his 8-year-old son, from whom he lives separately after divorce, but due to the economic recession, he finds himself in a situation where even maintaining his livelihood is difficult, as work becomes increasingly scarce. Furthermore, with the increase of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) supporting the slum, the young people in the neighborhood who worked hard gradually lose their will for independence and begin to live relying on the help of NGOs. Sang-hyun believes that the excessive help from NGOs undermines the residents' will for independence, and that NGOs are expanding their influence for their own profit.
