Gisaeng: The Confession of a Flower (2018)

In the early 20th century, there were female artists who bloomed spectacularly, dominating the cultural and artistic world as flowers of modernity, only to disappear silently. They were called 'Haeohwa' (flowers that speak), or Gisaeng. They possessed not only external beauty but were also cultural elites with skills in acting, dance, instrumental performance, and knowledge of art. They were pioneers who embraced the new while inheriting tradition. Their artistry was so outstanding that it was said, 'A dancer like Choi Seung-hee descended to Gunsan to learn dance.' However, their lives had to be hidden. They were pushed into the shadows by distorted gazes, and the indifferent world forgot them. Even when on the verge of being designated as cultural heritage, their past as Gisaeng was merely a label they wished to hide. Why did the world force them into hiding? Their story, which we must never forget and which we never knew, begins now!
