Jeong-a, who worked as a nurse at a general hospital, feels the impermanence of life after the death of Dr. Jang, head of internal medicine, from cancer. She decides to leave the secular world and enter Buddhism, and meets the Venerable Cheongbong while traveling to temples across the country. The Venerable Cheongbong tries to move Jeong-a's heart by telling her about Guanyin's past lives, but Jeong-a's resolve only grows stronger. Touched by this, the Venerable Cheongbong explains the difficulty of encountering Guanyin's incarnation, while introducing the austerities of the famous monk Heejeong from the Silla Dynasty. Jeong-a is even more moved and decides to become a Buddhist nun herself to alleviate the suffering of sentient beings, and participates in the ordination ceremony. During the ordination ceremony and ritual, the grandest of Buddhist ceremonies, a pure nun is finally born. The nun suddenly departs in search of a place to pray for the encounter with Guanyin's incarnation.
