Red Maria, met in Korea, Japan, and the Philippines, tells the unstoppable life stories of determined women! I (the director) met many women. They live in different spaces, under different names. Jenalyn, a migrant woman visiting her hometown after 10 years of marriage; Rita, a war survivor grandmother who found the courage to reveal the truth after 50 years; Clot, a sex worker who gave birth to a fatherless daughter at sixteen; Jonghee, a precarious worker who wants to work but cannot; Ichimura, a homeless person in Tokyo who happily exercises her right not to work; domestic workers who work 24 hours a day, and even women in slums threatened with eviction. Following their daily lives, I arrived at a question: How are such different labors connected to the 'body' in such similar ways? To find the answer to this question, I decided to capture their 'bellies' with the camera. From those 'bellies', full of wrinkles and scars, carrying the history of their lives, this story begins!
