Jang Soo-mi gives birth to the child of Song Woo-yeol, whom she met while working at a bar. She runs a café to support her son, but is swindled out of her assets by a con artist named Manager Cha, and creditors, mistaking her for an accomplice, have her imprisoned. During this time, her son is left in the care of Song Woo-yeol. After her release, Soo-mi deposits the money she earned from her business into a savings account under her son Ji-hoon's name. Now an alcoholic and fearing for her life, she tries to see her son one last time, but Ji-hoon avoids her. That night, Soo-mi freezes to death in a park. When Woo-yeol and Ji-hoon arrive too late, she hands them the savings book and breathes her last.
