While on a journey, Su Erjun passes by the ruins of the Huaqing Palace, where Yang Guifei once bathed. Wandering through the desolate, fog-covered site, he encounters a noblewoman of supernatural beauty and her maid behind a gate. The noblewoman is the ghost of Yang Guifei, and the maid is the spirit of Qu'er, her first lover. Startled by the encounter, Su Erjun listens as Yang Guifei reflects on the era of chaos caused by her presence and expresses a desire to be an ordinary woman living for only one man if she were to be reborn.
