Raised as an orphan, Hyun-ju graduates from high school and begins working at a family planning center. Hyun-ju meets and falls in love with Jeong-ho, a poor medical student, and helps him with his studies. They build a cozy home, and thanks to Hyun-ju's devoted sacrifice, Jeong-ho passes the medical exam with top honors. On the day of the celebration party, Jeong-ho meets Yoon-jeong, the daughter of the director of the hospital where he currently works. Jeong-ho feels as familiar with Yoon-jeong as if he had met a woman from a new world, and is drawn to her proactive personality, becoming a prisoner of love. Between the two women, Jeong-ho begins to abuse Hyun-ju. Upon learning this truth, Hyun-ju, for truly loving Jeong-ho, leaves the orphanage where she grew up one day. In a place where only the sea is visible, Hyun-ju gives birth to Jeong-ho's baby without anyone's blessing. However, her life is in danger due to pernicious anemia. Meanwhile, Jeong-ho, who was preparing to go abroad to study with Yoon-jeong, rushes to the hospital, but Hyun-ju breathes her last after uttering the words "I love you."
