Sang-rim lives on a farm with her young son Dong-su, but she rejects the marriage proposal of Jeong-gyu, the local mine manager. Later, a young man named Min-gu, passing by the farm, stops to shelter from the rain, and from then on, he begins to help Sang-rim with farm work. One day, Min-gu confesses his past to Sang-rim. Min-gu returned from the Middle East, witnessed his wife's infidelity, and committed murder. Min-gu and Sang-rim share their love before parting. When an accident occurs in the mine, Min-gu rescues the miners, his affection for Sang-rim deepens, and they plan to build a new life, but Min-gu is arrested by the police.
