They forgo a good adoption opportunity and secretly escape from the orphanage. Five-year-old Gil-seon and his blind older sister Gam-i, with the sole determination to return to their hometown, overcome all adversities and barely reach the vicinity of their hometown. However, that hometown has already been submerged due to dam construction and disappeared without a trace. Young Gam-i is even assaulted by a young man. In despair and suffering, the two accidentally meet the monk Haeng-un, who takes them to a temple. Gil-seon, the boy who constantly causes trouble, is separated from Haeng-un. While Haeng-un leaves to beg for alms, leaving Gil-seon behind, a heavy snowfall blocks the path to the hermitage. Sister Angela, who finally manages to reach the place, is stunned by the situation. The boy Gil-seon sits in the hermitage with a pale face, says his sister will open her eyes, and then remains motionless. He died sitting. This hermitage is called Oseam.
