Min Woo, who went to prison for participating in the student movement, seeks love after his release to overcome his sense of powerlessness. One day, he meets Young Ae, a fake college student stealing items at the university library. Min Woo falls in love with her, but Young Ae is a prostitute and the mistress of a gangster named Hyun Ma, with whom she maintains a symbiotic relationship. Min Woo, who loves Young Ae, tries to rescue her from the gangster Hyun Ma and flee with her. However, Young Ae, knowing that Hyun Ma is suffering from an incurable disease, feels pity for him. As Hyun Ma's death approaches, Young Ae reenacts her past as a prostitute for him one last time. But Min Woo, misunderstanding this, is overcome with rage and murders Young Ae and Hyun Ma. Min Woo faces the judgment of the law, while Young Ae, who was thought to be dead, still wanders the night streets searching for true love.
