Dr. Go Jin-ha, on a geological exploration of Mount Baekdu, seeks the whereabouts of Ra Ri-cheong, his life-saver and lover from 50 years ago when he was in the independence army, with the help of a Yanbian Daily reporter. He finally finds his son Jin-cheong, who works as a lumberjack at a logging site on Mount Baekdu. However, Jin-cheong, who has lived over 50 years in the sorrow of having no father, coldly rejects Dr. Go and his party. After completing his exploration of Mount Baekdu, Dr. Go visits Jin-cheong again, and Jin-cheong tells him that his mother, Ra Ri-cheong, has gone to North Korea in search of her husband. Dr. Go gazes at his wife, who stands faintly on the other side of the Tumen River in North Korea, and sheds tears. Finally, Jin-cheong reconciles with his father.
