Geology doctor Go Jin-ha travels to China for an invited lecture at Yanbian University. Sitting on a speeding train, gazing at the majestic appearance of Mount Baekdu, Doctor Go recalls his days in the Liberation Army, galloping across the vast Manchurian plains, and painful memories resurface. Upon arriving in Yanji, Doctor Go meets his old friend Han Gil-woo, who tells him that his former lover from the Liberation Army days, Ra Ri-cheong, gave birth to their son, Jin-cheong, and that this child has grown up and now lives in Yanbian. After completing his lecture schedule at Yanbian University, Doctor Go embarks on a search for Jin-cheong with the help of Mi-ran, a Korean ethnic journalist. After much searching, he succeeds in finding his son, but Jin-cheong coldly rejects Doctor Go, who has gone to great lengths to find him.
