Orphaned boy Tom is tired of life at the orphanage. Especially because of Sister Lucia, who doesn't understand him and always gives him harsh corporal punishment. One day, a wealthy lady visits the orphanage, and Tom and the other children are filled with hope for adoption. However, Tom's mischief ruins everything. Fearing the children's resentment and Sister Lucia's punishments, Tom runs away from the orphanage to find adoptive parents. On his journey, Tom meets Bong-u, a wandering painter, and they travel together. The world with Bong-u is full of newness for Tom. But when a theft occurs at a nearby villa, people suspect Tom and Bong-u. The two join forces to catch the thief, and the villa owner, who lost her daughter, wants to adopt Tom. Tom's wish comes true, but realizing his love for Bong-u, he sets off on a journey again with him.
