Twelve-year-old Lingling grows up under the care of her undocumented mother. One day, she discovers her mother is planning to return to her home country alone. As the holy summer night deepens, bright daylight streams through a narrow window, and Lingling vaguely realizes she must find her father, who disappeared long ago, to survive. She arrives in Shindo, her father's hometown. On this island village surrounded by the sea on all sides, Lingling, who disembarked aimlessly to survive, finds herself at the home of 'Grandma Ot-ttang-kko,' rumored to practice cannibalism.
