Yong-ja, forced to play the role of head of a poor household, despairs of a society that cannot accept her and eventually becomes a prostitute. One day, Yong-ja meets Katsuo, a Japanese man, and feels pity for him, but unable to leave this place, she bids him farewell. One day, yielding to her family's insistence, Yong-ja goes on an arranged date and discovers that the man is none other than Jang-ho, with whom she spent a night, and she is once again overcome with deep sorrow. Jang-ho is also a man who feels a profound betrayal from society. He rather feels the truth in Yong-ja and is drawn to her. Yong-ja, furious that her family, despite knowing her profession, has feigned ignorance, begins to self-flagellate. At that moment, the hand that saved Yong-ja was Jang-ho's true love.
