Dong-ju, who had a history of promiscuity before marriage, ends his disorderly past by marrying Jeong-ae, the only daughter of a prestigious family. However, Jeong-ae's bold bedroom manners on their wedding night confuse Dong-ju, who begins to doubt her virginity, and this shock starts to fracture their marital life. Jeong-ae, who is frank and direct, is disappointed by Dong-ju's passive attitude and suffers intensely, both mentally and physically. To try and salvage their increasingly distant marital life, she makes every effort, including seeking advice from a psychiatrist, but the couple cannot find a way to overcome the shock of their first night. Finally, Jeong-ae has an affair with her swimming coach, returns home, and takes her own life, consumed by guilt.
