Pastor Kim Yo-han visits his mother, Trudy (85, Korean name: Kim Chu-ri), who served as the director of Joongang Christian Kindergarten, at her home two and a half hours away every Monday. After spinal surgery in 2006 for multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, the cancer recurred ten years ago. While undergoing chemotherapy, she also developed dementia, leading her to cease all external activities and live in a wheelchair. As a first-generation immigrant who overcame societal prejudice and raised three children successfully, Mrs. Kim Chu-ri founded Joongang Christian Kindergarten in 1979, practicing inclusive education for the disabled. She taught English at Suwon Women's Prison for 15 years and recently ran a pie shop to help the disadvantaged, dedicating her life to the vulnerable.
