Kkokdu, placed atop the funeral bier in traditional Korean mourning rituals, were small guardians that comforted the deceased's loneliness and guided them on their journey to the afterlife. "Kkokdu" is a hybrid documentary that explores the Korean perspective on death and their ways of offering solace by tracing the meaning of kkokdu within disappearing funeral rites. Through the memories embedded in the Jindo Dasiraegi, the funeral procession, and the hands of artisans, kkokdu is revived not as a mere ornament, but as a medium connecting life and death. In a visual landscape where live-action filming intersects with XR and virtual imagery, past rituals meet present technology to form a new space-time. This journey expands into a ritual for the departed, a record of healing for those left behind, and ultimately, a story about the path we will all eventually face.
