In 18th-century Padua, Italy, scientist Rappaccini conducts secret research using plant toxins to make his daughter Beatrice immune to poison. Beatrice grows up confined to a poisonous garden, living a life isolated from the world with her toxic nature. Giovanni, an aspiring artist, arrives in Padua, captivated by Rappaccini's garden and Beatrice. He connects with her through his art. When Beatrice ventures outside the garden with Giovanni, she is attacked by townspeople who brand her a witch, and Rappaccini reveals his fury towards humanity. The three characters, each trying to protect their love in their own way, ultimately confront a harsh reality.
