The Mimist (2021)

A performance is held in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of mime artist Eugene Kyu's mime career. Leading up to the performance, rehearsals, after-parties, interviews, and filming all proceed busily. In the process, some criticize that Kyu's art has changed, while others try to gauge where Kyu's desires are heading. Kyu simply looks back on how he has achieved the 'poetic expression of desire' through mime from his twenties in the 1970s to his old age, and prepares for what's next. <Mime Artist> is a work that stands out for its three-dimensional structure, intertwining reality and film, stage and daily life, set against the backdrop of the Yoseon Market area. As long as there is space and music, mime can begin anytime and anywhere, which then becomes a gesture metaphorical for the film's dialogue.
