The protagonist, Lee Ja-eun, was always at the forefront of the North Korean authorities' propaganda policies, working as a singer in a propaganda troupe. However, due to a lack of food supply, she survived by gathering acorns from the mountains with her friends. Furthermore, her boyfriend was imprisoned for watching South Korean videos and was on the verge of execution. Close acquaintances were caught while defecting, forcibly repatriated to North Korea, and subjected to brutal torture in a detention center. To save her boyfriend, she offered herself to the party secretary. However, when there was no hope of rescue, she initiated a rescue operation to save her acquaintances, boyfriend, and other defectors. The escape from the detention center was successful, but as they crossed the border, most of the defectors were killed by the brutal gunfire of the border guards. Only five survived, but as her boyfriend reached Chinese soil, he was shot and killed by the border guard chief. Four of them safely arrived in South Korea, where they exposed the atrocities of torture and execution in North Korea through a press conference.
