Kim Sun Young has a brother who is involved in the independence movement and a lover, Shim Bong Gu. To raise funds for their exile to Shanghai, they demand money from Count Baek Yun Hee, a collaborator, but fail. During this incident, Sun Young's brother is shot in the leg. Meanwhile, Bong Gu, after receiving a fake letter from Sun Young, fabricated under coercion and manipulation by the Japanese police, is arrested and sentenced to five years in prison. Sun Young is then tormented by guilt. Her friend In Soon introduces her to Mrs. Myung, the wife of the Count's advisor, Lawyer Kim. She introduces Sun Young to the Count, who takes an interest in her and arranges visits for her to see Bong Gu. Shortly after, Bong Gu is suddenly released, but only his mother awaits him. Upon learning that Sun Young has become the Count's concubine, Bong Gu, enraged by her betrayal, decides to abandon his ideals and focus solely on making money. In court, Sun Young makes a statement that is fatal to herself, proving that Bong Gu was in her room on the night of the murder, thus establishing his alibi. Lawyer Kim, witnessing the scene, reveals on the spot that Sun Young's marriage was a sacrifice made in exchange for Bong Gu's release. At this moment, news of the arrest of the real culprit reaches the court. Enraged by all these events, the Count violently beats Sun Young. She steals money and flees, sending it to Bong Gu as funding for the independence movement. Upon learning this, Bong Gu goes to find Sun Young, but she has already committed suicide.
