Life of the Woman (1957)

Geumbong, gifted in vocal arts, continues her studies in Seoul with the help of Mr. Son Myung-gyu, despite her conservative parents' opposition, and becomes Im Hak-jae's lover. To fund Geumbong's tuition, Mr. Son embezzles public funds, resigns from his teaching position, moves to Seoul, and goes into business with Director Kim. Eul-nam, who secretly loves Hak-jae, jealous of the relationship between Hak-jae and Geumbong, tells Hak-jae about the relationship between Mr. Son Myung-gyu and Geumbong. Hak-jae, tormented by the misunderstanding, gets into a car accident and becomes disabled. Geumbong, having lost Hak-jae's love, eventually marries Mr. Son. However, Mr. Son is arrested for opium smuggling, and Geumbong lives an unhappy life. Seeing Geumbong with Hak-jae, who came to confess his love, Mr. Son attempts to kill Hak-jae but is killed by Geumbong. Geumbong is imprisoned for murder. In prison, Hak-jae vows to Geumbong that he will give up his studies abroad and wait for her.
