During the Korean War, painter Oh Kwon, disillusioned by his friend Hyun Woo's selfish actions, decides to flee south and consults with Young Joo, his lover and Hyun Woo's cousin. However, due to constant surveillance from the North, he cannot take Young Joo with him and flees south with Chae Ok, Hyun Woo's wife. In Jeju, Oh Kwon starts a new life with Chae Ok with the help of his friend Geun Ho, but he never forgets Young Joo and longs for her. He finally reunites with Young Joo, whom he had longed for, but despite their love, they accept their misaligned fate and part ways.
