Yang Myung-hwan, an art instructor newly appointed to a women's university who studied in France, receives the attention and love of his students. Among the students who confess their love to him are Myung-sook, who audaciously visits his apartment where he lives alone, and Yeo-ok, with her introverted personality who can only express her admiration through letters. Yeo-ok grew up under the tutelage of her widowed mother from a modest family, and her mother tries to marry her off to Mr. Heo, a businessman. The love between Yeo-ok and Myung-hwan deepens, but due to Myung-sook's jealousy and sabotage, they break up. Myung-hwan, whose health has deteriorated, goes to recuperate at a mountain lodge in Cheongpyeong. Meanwhile, Yeo-ok's marriage continues to be arranged, and one day, a few days before her wedding. Seeing her daughter so distressed, Yeo-ok's mother finally gives her approval: 'If you love him that much, go the path you have chosen.' However, Myung-hwan leaves only a letter before departing this world. Plunged into grief, Yeo-ok takes medicine and follows the path Myung-hwan took first. For that is the only path that will connect her to Myung-hwan forever.
