Sang-chil, a fisherman with a cleft lip, lives happy days with his beautiful wife Ok-bun. Sang-bok, Sang-chil's brother, feels parental affection from his sister-in-law and follows her. When Sang-chil's boat does not return due to a storm, Ok-bun waits tirelessly for her husband. However, the villagers, seeing Sang-bok comforting Ok-bun, misunderstand their relationship as romantic and spread rumors. Sang-chil, upon returning, believes the rumors, misunderstands, and assaults them. Ok-bun, falsely accused, throws herself into the sea, and Sang-bok returns with her body. Later, Sang-chil clears up the misunderstanding and spends over 20 years searching for his brother who had left home.
