On a lush early summer day, Jong-ho, who lost an arm in the Vietnam War, arrives as a supervising teacher at a church-affiliated orphanage called House of Angels, home to about 150 orphans, ranging from 7-8 year olds to 16-17 year old boys. Jang-gu, the leader of this orphanage, rebels against everything and everyone. Behind Jang-gu is an unseen figure named Wang-cho, who manipulates him from behind the scenes, causing the children to escape one by one from the orphanage. Jong-ho desperately tries to stop this. Finally, Jang-gu, who is moved by Jong-ho, is stabbed by Wang-cho and carried back to the rehabilitation center on Jong-ho's back.
