When his immigration to the United States is confirmed through his fiancée Nanhee's arrangements, Jun heads to his hometown to dispose of an ancestral home on a sandy island off Jeju. Seeking refuge on a remote island due to his frustration with Nanhee, Jun encounters Vivari, who is ostracized by the villagers for killing her own brother. On the day of the Dangam festival, when the construction of the breakwater, a long-cherished village project, is completed, a sudden storm strikes, destroying the breakwater and blaming Vivari. She then takes her own life. Now, Jun resolves to share the benefits of civilization with the conservative villagers.
