Lee Ok-rye is an admirable 17-year-old daughter who works as a sea diver to support her poor family. Ok-rye marries Geun-sik, a groom from a mountainous region, on the condition that he will provide food for her family, but unexpectedly the groom turns out to be paralyzed. Ok-rye believes that everything is destined by heaven and begins a life of hardship. She takes care of the excrement needs of her disabled husband, endures the death of her father-in-law, nurses her long-ailing mother-in-law, and resists the temptations of Mr. Jang, who covets her. However, time passes, and Ok-rye gradually becomes a mother of two sons and one daughter. Her hardships are not in vain, as she receives honors such as the Mother Award and the Filial Daughter Award.
