Kang Byung-cheol, recently discharged from the military, decides to actively engage in a land reclamation project. Sun-ok, who was close to Byung-cheol, has her bag snatched. While chasing the young thief Chung-nam, Byung-cheol meets Do-suk. Do-suk is a junior from the same elementary school as Byung-cheol, who, due to financial hardship, fell under the control of the crime boss Hyun-tae and became his mistress. After meeting Byung-cheol, Chung-nam and Do-suk wish to follow him to the countryside, but it is difficult for them to escape Hyun-tae's grasp. Do-suk and Chung-nam flee from Hyun-tae and hide at Suwon-daek's house, but are eventually captured again. Byung-cheol, who goes to find Do-suk, is brutally beaten by Hyun-tae's henchmen and chased away. With the help of Sun-ok, who treats his wounds, Byung-cheol moves to the countryside and begins the land reclamation project with his comrades. Sun-ok visits the countryside once a week to help Byung-cheol, and they become engaged. Do-suk and Chung-nam escape at the risk of their lives, find Byung-cheol in the countryside, live with him, and participate in the reclamation project. Do-suk and Byung-cheol gradually grow closer. When Sun-ok visits Byung-cheol, she discovers the relationship between Do-suk and Byung-cheol, leading to frequent disputes between Sun-ok, Byung-cheol, and Do-suk. These disputes cause discord among the comrades of the reclamation project, and Byung-cheol wavers between the two women. Han Do-suk believes that, due to her impurity, she is not worthy of being Byung-cheol's wife and leaves him.
