Gauche (2023)

《Left》 is an experimental film co-directed by Kwak Gu-yun of Film Theory and Ha Jeong-hyun of Sculpture, which dramatizes Seoul using Deleuze's methodology, referencing the Soviet Left and the Left of the 68 Revolution. We walked the streets of Seoul, separately yet together, filming not people but the arrangements of space-time surrounding them, and made the event of becoming Left occur upon their rearrangement. For the theoretical refinement of 'co-creation,' we referenced and transformed the methodologies of not only Deleuze and Guattari, but also the Soviet Left's Eisenstein and Joyce, and the 68 Revolution's Dziga Vertov Group, and at the same time, to ensure the outcome would be a practical production that reveals the objectification and fetishization deeply embedded in everyday reality, rather than abstract armchair theorizing, we first captured numerous locations in Seoul moment by moment and shared them on a drive, and then determined locations and wrote the scenario from the collected fragments of objects.
