We take pictures almost every day. We carve out a square with the frame we want. That square, separated from the infinite connected world, is reconnected with strange things to become a movie, or becomes an individual image on Facebook or Instagram. The square is killed by the intention of the one who takes it. And it is killed a second time by the meaning of the one who sees it. Because nothing is what it truly is. There is no human meaning in the square. When we say, 'This scene is beautiful!', the word 'beautiful' is just human excitement, unrelated to the square itself. There is no reason for a flower to bloom. Here, musician Ryu Han-gil performs a cleansing ritual for that square. He carefully washes the body of the square, decolorizes the suffocating meaning we have superimposed on it, and returns it to its original state. Whether we know it or not, we will always and everywhere see and hear it, resonating with faint waves. Sensitive people will.
