Completed by director Park Chan-kyong after over two years of research, investigation, exploration, interviews, and filming in the area near Mount Gyeryongsan, "Sindoan" (2008) is structured into six chapters that traverse the boundaries between religion and shamanism, history and the present, documentary and fiction. It unfolds the multifaceted aspects of 'Sindoan,' which was foretold as the new capital of the Joseon Dynasty, developed as a hub for various new religions and shamanistic beliefs during the colonial era up to the 1960s, and underwent various changes after the 1960s, including large-scale purification projects and the establishment of major military facilities. In particular, the combination of press photos, archival footage, and objective texts with interview voices, various sounds including incantations, and soulful songs, makes it a sophisticated textual visual work that yearns for a new utopia.
